I was awakened at 4:30 this morning by the sound of rushing water! It seems the supply line to my toilet broke. I caught it fairly quickly, turned the supply off and then immediately ran downstairs because I knew my comics were stored directly under the toilet (I know, I know, not a good place but it is the only place I have right now!).
The bottoms of some boxes were a little wet, the sides of some others were a little wet BUT all comics are dry and safe due to the fact that I bag and box the books. Otherwise, I would have lost thousands of books and been pretty PO'd for the rest of the day.
Oh, the line is fixed and everything else is good, too.

I had a flooded basement a few years ago, and was just as relieved that the comics were bagged. (At least the ones on the boxes in the bottom, which is where it counted.) Now, I keep them all on pallets. And I keep the pallets on a high ledge.
However, the sheer act of lugging my all 20-plus boxes of comics up two flights of stairs was enough of an effort to make me never want to do it again. When I move, I will seriously consider whether I want to bring them all with me or leave them as a "bonus" for my home's future owner.
I mean of the 4,000-plus comics I own, only 10% of them might be saleable above cover price.
Which all makes me think that maybe I should have just stored them in the basement and hoped for the best.
Well hopefully you will be rich when you move again and you can hire someone to move all of those boxes for you.
