Odd Things I Taped Between MST3K Episodes: Superman (1941) There's never been a live-action Superman movie that captured the "feel" of this character as well as this cartoon did.

Show 901: "The Projected Man". first broadcast 3/14/1999
The Film: This is a 1966 British film about a man who gains the "touch of death" after an accident with an experimental teleporter. Not that bad of a picture, actually.
The Host Segments: The SOL arrives over present-day Earth. Pearl , Bobo and Observer arrive in Castle Forrester. Crow and Servo "project" Mike's valuables. Mike calls Lembach, trying to get him to stay. Pearl researches her family history. Crow has the touch of death, and kills Mike, although he later revives him in the theater. Mike refuses Servo's grant request, but approves Crow's. Pearl is determined to conquer the world!
Rating: An OK episode, although there's something wrong with the sound - Mike and the Bots sound like they're in an echo chamber during the theater segments.

Mike and the Bots critique films like "Titanic", "L.A. Confidential", "Amistad", "Good Will Hunting" and "Starship Troopers".
Rating: Mildly amusing.

Show 524: "!2 To The Moon", first broadcast 2/5/1994
The Short: "Design for Dreaming" (1956) is an extremely trippy paean to General Motors vehicles. One of the show's all-time famous shorts. Really weird stuff.
The Film: From 1960, this features an international crew making the first trip to the Moon in the far-off year of 1980. The Moon people are less than impressed with humanity. Cheesily-made, this film is almost perfect fodder for MST3K. Features Francis X. Bushman as the oldest old man ever.
The Host Segments: Mike sits through one of Gypsy's tea parties. It is awkward. Frank roasts Dr. F. It gets nasty really fast. Mike and the Bots play tennis. Servo loses it when a call goes against him. Nuveena (Bridget Jones, as the lady from the short) materializes on the SOL, offering to take Mike and the bots to her futuristic world. The Bots have doubts about this idea. Nuveena turns Crow and Servo into appliances, so Mike reluctantly asks her to leave. Mike reds some letters and Nuveena appears in Deep 13.
Favorite Lines:
- "I am having hard enough time!"
- "Look, Dead Raccoon of Tomorrow!"
- "I wet my little kitty pants!"
- "There was clearly a stick involved!"
Rating: One of my all-time favorite episodes of this show. The film, the short, the riffs, the host segments - all combine for a really fun episode.

The Film: From 1955, this is a heavy-handed moralizing in which a good girl gets caught up with a would-be Bonnie and Clyde, and it ends in tears, literally. Why did so many old films cast people who looked like they were pushing thirty as teenagers?
The Host Segments: Mike, Crow and Servo are plotting an escape. Dr.F invents Mace Mousse. The escape fails utterly. Mike, Crow and Servo celebrate the Golden Age of the Doughy Guy, Later, they open the SOL Deli. Frank is their first customer. Mike and the Bots do a parody of a Mentos ad. Mike reads some letters. Frank is super-hero Dought Man. Dr. F sprays him with Mace Mousse repeatedly because the episode is running short and they need to fill airtime.
Rating: An OK episode.

Show 314: "Mighty Jack", first broadcast 9/21/1991
The Film: From 1987, this is another Sandy Frank lash-up of a Japanese TV show, this time one from 1968. Super-spies from the eponymous agency battle the evil organization known as Q. Run-of-the-mill stuff.
The Host Segments: The SOL is under attack! Joel Robinson is dead! (Fake!) The Mads invent the Formal Flipper. Joel invents earmuffs that look like ears. The Bots do an ad for Mighty Jack dog food. The Bots trap Joel, but he outwits them. Joel uses an aquarium to sell movie ideas. Joel and the Bots sing "Slow the Plot Down". Frank is a pirate.
Rating: An OK episode. Watchable, but not great.
