OK, I'll be handling this one a little differently than some of the other TV series I've re-watched. I don't own every episode of this, and what I do own isn't in broadcast order, so I'll be watching them as I find them, and updating this initial post as to where they sit in the show's history.

Show 516: "Alien from L.A.", first broadcast 11/20/1993
The Film: From 1987, this film features Kathy Ireland as squeaky-voiced airhead Wanda Saknussemm, whose search for her missing father leads her to a subterranean land under North Africa. It's pretty bad. Over the close credits, Mike, Crow and Servo accuse one another of liking various "chick movies".
The Host Segments: Drill Sergeant Crow has Mike field-strip Servo. The Mads invent the Vend-A-Gut. Mike invents Fridge Udders. Crow and Servo try to remember a model's name. Mike, Tom and Crow sing "My Wild Irish Ireland". Crow and Servo have Mike play the Kathy Ireland Fabulous Range of Emotions Acting Guessing Game. The answer is always "dull surprise". Mike reads a letter and Frank is unwell.
Rating: A so-so episode. The film is abominable and the host segments are only mildly amusing.

I know I've seen this one (unless Kathy Ireland made more than one movie... not likely!), but I remember nothing about it. This one is an example of what we were discussing yesterday... that the truly bad movies often are not as funny to parody as ones with at least some cinematic merit.

Show 620: "Danger!! Death Ray", first broadcast 1/7/1995
The Film: From 1967, this is an Italian James Bond knock-off, in which secret agent Bart Fargo must recover a stolen death ray, which was created for peaceful purposes. Mildly amusing, this picture lends itself to some good riffing. There are scenes in which a submarine and a helicopter are involved in which it is quite obvious that toys are involved.
The Host Segments: Crow has contact lenses. They are painful. (Aside: I wore contacts for a while in my 20's. I could never get used to putting something on my eyeballs, and I don't think I look appreciably better or worse with or without glasses.) Tom has signed a contract to endorse sneakers, even though he doesn't have feet. Frank is his agent, and Torgo arrives as Frank's client. Dr. F puts a stop to that nonsense. Servo builds a death ray for peaceful purposes, and immediately uses it to zap Crow, who, to his credit, sees the lighter side of being set on fire. Servo hosts "This is Your Life" for Mike. Crow is the only guest. Crow develops a line of "womany" Italian sunglasses for men. Cambot cries because so many cameras were shot up in the film. Frank gives Dr. F a glamor shot of himself.
Favorite Lines:
- "If Michael Caine and Andre the Giant had a child!"
- "Can the balloon juice and kill something!"
Rating: This pretty good, actually, a better episode than I remembered it being.

Show 803: "The Mole People", first broadcast 2/15/1997
The Film: From 1956, this film features John Agar, Hugh Beaumont, Nestor Paiva and Alan Napier. Agar, Beaumont and Paiva are archaeologists who stumble across a subterranean Sumerian colony who are oppressing a race of basically good-hearted non-humans. (I like that the non-humans aren't heels, here.) Universal Horror in its declining years. Still watchable, though. There's an odd prologue to this picture in which a professor who seems to be constantly on the edge of hysteria jabbers nonsense about the Hollow Earth Theory.
The Host Segments: Crow claims to be a Space-Child. In "Deep Ape", it's Law-giver Daze. The Bots have made various desserts. Bobo is not enjoying Law-Giver Daze. Mike impersonates the Professor form the start of the film. The Bots disapprove. Servo tries to sing a folk song about himself. It doesn't go well. Crow finds fossil evidence of his own existence. He remembers Mike. (They just sort of dropped that story element.) Mike and the Bots find two "Pale Day Players" (Paul Chaplin and Patrick Brantseg) living beneath the surface of the SOL. At the climax of Law-Giver Daze, the apes present Pearl with Howard, a hunky mute. She wonders what she's going to do with him, but then she thinks of something.
Rating: A fairly good episode. It felt like they were still finding their feet a bit on Sci-Fi here.

Show 204: "Catalina Caper", first broadcast 10/13/1990
The Film: From 1967, this features Tommy Kirk and Lyle Waggoner. It's a sort of combination beach party/madcap heist film. Not especially funny.
The Host Segments: Crow and Servo say their prayers before bedtime. The Mads invent Tank-Tops. Joel invents the Tickle Bazooka. Joel tells Crow and Servo about the 1960's It ends in biter memories. Servo sings a song about the Creepy Girl in the film. Frank tries to sell stuff to the Mole People. Doctor F sits in, and it doesn't go well. Joel tries to explain the plot of the movie. Tom sings about Creepy Girl some more.
Rating: Another so-so episode.

Show 311: "It Conquered The World", first broadcast 8/24/1991
The Short: "Snow Thrills" is a newsreel from 1945, enthusiastically describing the fun you can have if you want to stand around outside in the freezing cold. Apparently "skiing" was once pronounced "shiing".
The Film: From 1956, this features Lee Van Cleef as a scientist who contacts a sort of malevolent Pickle-thing from Venus, Beverly Garland as his wife and Peter Graves as his best friend. It's actually a pretty good picture, I remember watching it when I was a kid. Joel and the bots get some good riffs off of it.
The Host Segments: Joel uses Crow as a ventriloquist's dummy. The Mads invent easy Halloween costumes. Joel invents the Sony Sea-Man. Joel and the Bots parody the short. Later they have snarky dinner conversation. Later still, they sing about celebrity siblings. At the end, Joel and the Bots listen to Peter Graves' speech at the end of the film. The bots read some letters. In Deep 13, Frank and Dr. F listen to Peter Graves' speech at the end of the film. Peter Graves' speech at the end of the film runs over the closing credits.
Rating: An all-time favorite of mine. The film, the the short, the riffing and the host segments all work really well for me. If I ever die, I want Peter Graves' speech at the end of the film read at my memorial service, if there is one.

Show 906: "The Space Children", first broadcast 6/13/1998
The Short: "Century 21 Calling" is from 1962, and is essentially a promotional piece for the phone company. It's set at the Seattle World's Fair and shows clean-cut young white people being shown what was then thought the phones of the future would look like. It's an amusing combination of stuff that looked futuristic then but looks hopelessly primitive now (everyone's still using rotary phones) and stuff we never got, like being able to turn your oven off over the phone.
The Film: From 1958, it tells how the children of a group of children of some scientists at a rocket base are visited by a benevolent alien who looks a bit like a giant deep-dish pizza. Look for Jackie Coogan as a scientist, and Russel Johnson (here "Russell D. Johnson") as an angry, abusive drunk.
The Host Segments: Servo has a kissing booth. A technician (Patrick Brantseg) installs business phones on the SOL at Pearl's behest. Mike and the Bots and Pearl, Bobo and Observer have a conference call. It doesn't go well. Mike mimics the overly-enthusiastic people from the short. Crow and Servo hit him with a wrecking ball. Pearl has a space program, with Bobo as her reluctant pilot. Crow has designed disturbing clothing for Jackie Coogan. The space blob from the movie visits the SOL. Pearl launches her rocket, but without Bobo on board. It does not end well.
Favorite Line: "'How do animals learn'? I don't care, as long as they learh to taste good."
Rating: All in all, a fairly good episode. I enjoyed this one.

Show 907: "Hobgoblins", first broadcast 6/27/1998
The Film: A sad little low-rent amateur hour rip-off of "Gremlins" from 1987. No redeeming features.
The Host Segments: After hearing the Robert Palmer song "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On", Mike and the Bots have begun unintentionally turning one another on. Pearl sends a couch to the SOL for storage. Mike and the Bots immediately begin jumping on it. Crow makes a short film about how to treat women, if women actually exist. Crow set up a hotline for people who've had to watch "Hobgoblins". Mike and the Bots make a lame attempt to escape using cut-outs of themselves. Servo pretends to interview over the closing credits. Bobo and Observer jump on Pearl's couch. She blows them up.
Rating: A so-so episode. The film is awful, and the host segments are OK but not brilliant.

The Beach Party craze started in 1963 with the Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello film Beach Party and ended in 1966 with How to Stuff a Wild Bikini. Catalina Caper was made after the craze had ended by a different company and ended up on a shelf for awhile before someone decided since it was finished they might as well release it. It was a flop and studios stopped trying to revive the fad after this film. Studios tended to ask for Tommy Kirk when Avalon wasn't available. Never got his popularity. Going after movies like this or Manos or Plan 9 is like shooting fish in a barrel.
