OK, I'll be handling this one a little differently than some of the other TV series I've re-watched. I don't own every episode of this, and what I do own isn't in broadcast order, so I'll be watching them as I find them, and updating this initial post as to where they sit in the show's history.

Show 509: "The Girl in Lover's Lane", first broadcast 9/18/1993

The Film: From 1960, a tales of two drifters who find love and murder in a small town. Jack Elam plays a creepy guy. (Go figure!) Fairly depressing stuff.

The Host Segments: Crow and Servo decide to give each other belly buttons. The Mads invent Evil Event Days for baseball games. Joel and the Bots invent Doc Martens for Don Martin. Joel,Crow and Servo sing a train song. Crow and Servo plot to give Joel a beating. Crow is Jack Elam. Joel encourages Crow and Servo to create alternate endings for the movie. Doctor F drives a railroad spike through Frank's head.

Favorite Lines:

  • "And there's a good chance we're doing something incredibly stupid!"
  • "Big Stupid?"
  • "Watch out for Sleestaks!"
  • "I'm not Jack Elam anymore!"

Rating: A pretty good episode.  Some good riffs in this.

I've heard they're coming back. They should do something about Struck By Lightning, the very short lived TV show where Jack Elam played the Frankenstein Monster. "Your great-grandfather was Dr. Frankenstein. He's the one that made me. I'm the Monster! I was his monster! Now I'm your monster!" "What about a woman? Will you make me a woman?"

Show 1003: "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders", first broadcast 9/12/1999

The Film: From 1995, A grandfather (Ernest Borgnine) tells his grandson stories of Merlin in the modern day world, trying to recover lost mystical objects. Really cheesy. Sort of like someone tried to cross "The Princess Bride" with "The Night Gallery".

The Host Segments: Mike and the bots are into 1920's college pranks. Pearl experiments with giving Tom absolute authority.  Crow and Servo review each other. It gets hostile real fast. Servo turns Mike into a baby, sort of.  Mike reads Ernest Borgnine's children's books.  Bobo is on the SOL posing as the evil monkey from the movie.

Note: This was broadcast sometime after the final episode, as there was a last-minute dispute over the rights to use the movie.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 424: "'Manos': The Hands of Fate", first broadcast 1/30/1993

Tom Neyman, who played "The Master" in this film, has passed away.

Show 1010: "It Lives By Night", first broadcast 7/18/1999

The Film: From 1974, a man turns into a bat after being bitten by a bat. A fairly predictable film.

The Host Segments: Mike tries out color therapy on Crow and Servo.  Pearl has Bobo spray poison on the SOL.  Crow tries to prove that he looks more like Mary Tyler Moore than the woman in the movie.  Crow and Servo give Mike rabies shots because he feel asleep eating a pastry. Mike shows up his new mustache to Pearl, but she likes Crow's better. Servo is a franchisee of the Buddy Ebsen Hat Distressing Corporation. Pearl forces Bobo and Observer to watch slides of her various honeymoons.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 1012: "Squirm", first broadcast 8/1/1999

The Short: "A Case of Spring Fever" (1940) is a bizarre little film in which a malign sprite shows a man what the world would be like without springs in it. No idea why this was made. Was there a large anti-spring movement back then?   This short was parodied way back in Show 317, despite the fact that it wasn't actually shown on-air until several years later.

The Film:  A Southern town is set upon by a certain congress of impolitic worms. This picture plays into every Northerner's stereotyped image of life in the rural South. and the riffing plays into that,

The Host Segments: Mike, Crow and Servo do the annual SOL Safety Check.  Pearls holds the first annual Castle Forrester Fair.  Crow and Servo have a giant pig. Crow summons up Mikey, the Mike Sprite (Patrick).  Servo is a Southern belle.  Mike and Crow apply Yankee therapy to cure him. Mike tries to create a race of super-worms. Crow dresses as the little sister from the movie. Pearl makes Observer do bungee jumping.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 1006: "Boggy Creek II: And The Legend Continues", first broadcast 5/9/1999

The Film:  From 1985, a college professor and some interns search for a swamp monster.

The Host Segments: Mike and Crow are having their Cub Scout den meeting.  Servo shows up dressed as a Brownie. Pearl is doing potato-based mad science. Bobo messes it up. Mike, Crow and Servo have unhelpful flashbacks. Pearl has Observer sing a song about a creature living in Castle Forrester, i.e., Bobo. Servo goes in for whittling in a big way. Crow lights a fire on the bridge.  Pearl has opened a gift shop. A local boy (Bradley J. Keely) comes in, but Bobo spoils the gag.

Favorite Lines:

  • "Just think of me as a She-belo."  "Um...no."
  • "The Razorback hat lacks the quiet dignity of the cheese wedge."
  • "Hey, the Tomb of the Unknown Cracker."

Rating: An OK episode.

That finishes off Season Ten, but I'm still not quite done with this thread, yet.

Unproduced CD-ROM: "Assignment: Venezuela"

The Short:  From 1956, this shows an American oilman arriving in Venezuela, settling into his new job, learning Spanish and waiting for his family to join him. Essentially a propaganda piece for Creole Petroleum.

Note: Apparently this was filmed for a CD-ROM that was never made. It seems to be from the later Comedy Central, since it features Mike as host and Trace as Crow. It is an extra on the "Killer Shrews" DVD.

Rating:  A mildly amusing curiosity.

MiscellanyMST Poopie!

A thirty minute collection of outtakes from the Comedy Central seasons.  Fun, if you like outtakes, which I do. They do drop a few s-bombs, if you are bothered by that kind of thing.

Miscellany: "MST Poopie! II"

More outtakes, this time from Seasons Seven and Eight. This is the sort of thing that you will like if you like this sort of thing.

Miscellany: "The MST Scrapbook"

An collection of odds and ends from over the years. Segments from the pilot and the KTMA shows, promo pieces, Turkey Day segments, live shows, convention stuff and behind-the-scenes material. Interesting stuff.
