I have long felt that any good online discussion of a comic book series requires at least two active participants... not just two people posting, but two actually reading along... one to provide "play-by-play" and the other "color commentary." Tracy and I have considered leading a "husband and wife" discussion for some time, but we never could get the timing right. I first alluded to it in 2008 (I remember specifically), but I didn't announce the series. At the time it would have been Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise, but that topic has now expanded to all the titles in the SIP-verse. With 3 issues in volume one, 13 in two and 90 in three (volume three comprising eight parts itself), Strangers in Paradise would be ambitious enough, but we also hope to cover...

Echo - 30 issues

Rachel Rising - 42 issues

Motor Girl - 10 issues

Strangers in Paradise XXV - 10 issues

Five Years - 10 issues

Ever - 1 issue

Serial - 10 issues

We are approaching this with no set structure or timeframe involved. An issue at a time? A volume/series at a time? An issue a day? A volume/series/part a week? We don't know. All we know right now is that we plan to start with SIP v1 (the original three-issue limited series) sometime this weekend. the more people who participate the better the discussion is, so we invite as many of you to participate as possible, whether you read along with us or not.

Jenni is equal parts frightening and fascinating. I'm fearful for her mother, though. She's probably going to end up in a glass block.

I have read ISSUE #5 and as advised, did not read the bad scene. Jeff is very familiar with my triggers and childhood trauma so I will trust his judgment on it being bad.

The scene with Zoe was gross and had her typical weird humor.

No sign of the police getting closer to the killer while Zoe is delayed.

ISSUE #6 After Zoe profiles the killer, she runs back to the VW Bus and calls for Zeus. A dog runs up and hops in the bus. It's Zeus the guard dog from the gas station where Zoe killed the owner and stole his vehicle. Jet pulled a mangled piece of the owner guy from under the front bumper when she and Rachel find Zoe in the snow.

Here are a glass blocks Jenni makes. The upper-right block has the finger.

ISSUE #8 Moore led us to believe that Daniel was Jenni's original abuser but it was her mother. At first, I thought it would be a common blame of a parent who failed to protect a child. However, the scissors and shaved head reveal that Jenni's mother abused her but cutting a wounding her on her scalp, using her hair to hide the damage.

The head wounds illustrated with dozens of scars is an interesting juxtaposition between the physical and the mental abuse inflicted on Jenni. Moore is brilliant here.

I'm finished with the series and did not see the surprise coming at the end. I like that Sanchez helps Zoe, coverers for Zeus, and encourages Zoe to go to school and train to be a detective when she grows up.

Just noting that you went from 6 to 8.  Nothing for 7?

Oh, yeah! I think you're right. (Rachel Rising #21) That dog was named "Duke" though, but I'm willing to chalk that up to being another one of those "niggling little discrepancies."

Insightful observation!

Tracy doesn't necessarily comment on every issue unless she has something specific to say. that panel of the glass blocks is from #7.

"When Tracy's caught up to the end of Serial, I would like to host another discussion with her. I already have two series in mind (pending her approval, of course)."

What about my proposal? (I now have three series in mind.)

She agreed to one of your proposals, do you really want to push for more?  ;)

Lot's wife?  Was she turned in to a pillar of salt?

"When Annie Graham's lifeless body washes up Venice beach, the nation mourns the loss of a popular actress. Police suspect her death was no accident but Graham's husband-billionaire Zachary Lot-has the best lawyers money can buy and the investigation stalls. That's when Tambi Baker decides to take matters into her own hands and enlist three of her finest Parker Girl operatives to bring the Lot Empire down, one shocking scandal at a time."
