I don't mind. I usually tell people it's proncounced marconnay. When explaining it to people I tell them it's mark an A, like when you tell your teacher to "Mark an A on your test"

I Like Ham 12: Doctor Who Book Reviews

Posted on September 5, 2011 at 5:00pm 4 Comments

I've recently read two books related to Doctor Who that I think those of you who are fans of the show might enjoy.  The first book is The Science of Doctor Who, by Paul Parsons.

Parsons is a scientist and a journalist, and his book is pretty much what you would expect from the title - it…

I Like Ham 11: What Should a Blog Post Be?

Posted on June 10, 2011 at 3:18pm 18 Comments

As some of you may remember, I used to post blog entries here, shortly after we fist moved to the Ning site. Some of you may have noticed that after awhile, I stopped.  Since no one asked me why I stopped, I assumed that this was not a matter of general interest, and so never offered any explanation for the stoppage.  However, it's something that has been on my mind on-and-off ever since, and so I'm posting today - not, I hasten to add, in hopes of provoking a clamor for me to start…

I Like Ham 9: Smashing Fun!

Well, Steve, I suspect you may have wondered if I'd given up on the whole "blogging" thing. Not so, it was more a

combination of having a good chunk of my time watching and commenting upon The Time Tunnel, combined with my recent

purchase of a Wii. Years ago, the game that prompted me to buy an N64 was Super Smash Brothers. Some time after

that, the game that prompted me to buy a GameCube was Super Smash Brothers Melée. So, I imagine that it will come… Continue

I Like Ham 8: Masterpiece Comics

Posted on September 14, 2009 at 7:00am 7 Comments

Well, Steve, I went into the City again this weekend, picked up a book that you might find interesting. The book is called Masterpiece Comics, by R. Sikoryak. This features various classics of literature re-told in the formats of various comic strips and comic books. The cover really caught my eye, it's in the style of an old-school super-hero comic, with Dante Alighieri, Emily Brontë, William Shakespeare, Voltaire and Oscar Wilde racing towards the reader as thought they were a… Continue

I Like Ham 7: Hail to the King...of the Monsters!

Posted on September 9, 2009 at 11:43am 4 Comments

Another one of my "favorite fictions" was Godzilla. I first saw Godzilla in Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster, sometime in the late 1960's or early 1970's. I would've been somewhere between five and seven years old. This would have been one of my first intimations that there was a place called "Japan". (I had watched shows like Kimba, Speed Racer and Ultraman without realizing that they were Japanese in origin.) My knowledge of Japan in those days was limited to a dim… Continue
